Information about your stay with us
The ISAR Klinikum offers inpatient and outpatient operations. Your individual indication and preferred technique will determine which procedure is most suitable for you. Your attending physician will be happy to advise you during the pre-operative preparation. To ensure that your operation runs smoothly, it is important to follow the instructions you receive in advance exactly. This way you can be sure that you are as well prepared as possible for the treatment.
Here you will find all information for outpatient operations.
Your inpatient stay
You will usually be admitted to the ISAR Klinikum on the day of your operation. We will discuss all important information about your admission with you before your stay as part of the pre-operative preparation (data collection, anesthesia consultation, further medical examinations if necessary).
The appointment for pre-operative preparation should preferably take place a few days before your hospital stay. This will allow us to assess any issues relating to your health and ensure the highest possible level of safety during your stay with us. Please note that you must attend this appointment in person. Relatives are welcome to accompany you, but they cannot act as a proxy for you.
As part of the pre-operative preparation, all relevant personal data will first be compared with you by the patient admission staff and the treatment contracts for your hospital stay will be drawn up. This is followed by the actual anesthesia consultation, in which your general state of health is first determined. We will then explain the possible anesthetic procedures and the corresponding risks. The last point of the preoperative preparation is to carry out any necessary examinations (blood tests, ECG or further diagnostics). Please note that the complete pre-operative preparation can take one and a half to two hours, depending on the work involved and the current number of patients.
You will find the rooms on the first floor of the ISAR Klinikum. If you have any questions, please contact our reception staff, who will be happy to help you.
Please bring the following documents with you to your premedication appointment:
- Health insurance card or supplementary insurance card
- Hospital referral form (pink form)
- Referral form from your referring doctor (yellow form)
- Medication plan
- Findings already made
If available:
- Medical reports
- Pacemaker card
- Allergy passport
If you do not have any of the above documents, please contact your attending physician. You do not have to come to the premedication appointment on an empty stomach!

Your telephone/Internet:
Every patient at the ISAR Clinic and the Pettenkofer Clinic has their own telephone at their bedside.
Please let us know when you are admitted if you would like to use this telephone – it will then be activated directly and you can also pass on your telephone number to relatives and friends.
If you would also like to use the Internet with your own laptop via our WLAN, please register this when you are admitted as an inpatient. The costs are EUR 3.00 per day from registration at the admission desk.
On the day of your operation, we will receive you in the admission ward on the 2nd floor and prepare you for the operation. A member of staff from the admission ward or the ward staff will then take you directly to the operating theater. Your luggage and valuables will be taken to your room by the transport staff.
Rules of conduct for young people and adults:
- Do not eat anything from midnight on the evening before the operation
- Drinking clear liquids (water, tea and coffee without milk, no fruit juices) and smoking are permitted up to 2 hours before admission to the clinic on the day of the operation

The further procedure depends on the individual choice of anesthesia procedure (general anesthesia or regional procedure or local anesthesia). You can find detailed information on the website of the Clinic for Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.
If your doctor has scheduled you for follow-up treatment and has registered this with and at the clinic, please contact our transition management staff as early as possible to ensure that the application process runs smoothly.
You can find detailed information and contact details on the page on follow-up treatment.
Medical treatment is only possible with an S2 form (or in an emergency with a valid EHIC – European Health Insurance Card).
Before any planned treatment, you can apply for a declaration of assumption of costs (S2 form) from your statutory health insurance provider. You must bear the costs for services that are not included in the statutory scope of benefits in Germany yourself.
Please proceed as follows:
- Request the S2 form (formerly E112) from your health insurance provider in your home country.
The following must be noted on it:
-
- Medical indication in German/English
- (if known) planned therapy procedure in German/English
- Treating clinic: ISAR Klinikum
- Validity period
- After receiving the form, send a copy to a German health insurance company of your choice. After approval, you will receive a billing slip with an insurance number from this health insurance company.
- Please send us a copy of the S2 form and the statement of account (also by secure e-mail).
- On the first day of treatment, please bring the originals with you to patient admission.
Your treatment will be billed directly to your health insurance company.
Please note: In accordance with the statutory provisions of German social insurance law, insured persons must pay a co-payment of 10 euros for each calendar day in hospital, up to a maximum of 28 days of inpatient treatment.
