History of the ISAR Klinikum
“Our vision was to create a new platform for medicine. In the day-to-day life of the university, we had seen what good medicine means – for patients and their quality of life. But we also experienced the limits. Many things seemed to us to be in need of improvement in terms of the hierarchy of structures and patient comfort. We thought it must be possible to practice high-quality medicine in a setting that better meets the needs of our patients,” says founder Prof. Eckhard Alt, MD, describing the objectives of the ISAR Klinikum.
Prof. Dr. med. Eckhard Alt and his team turned this vision into reality: The ISAR Clinic opened in March 2008 – directly on Sonnenstrasse, in the heart of Munich. The listed Bürkleinbau building is part of the historic building complex. Built in the 19th century as a maternity hospital, it now houses many doctors’ surgeries and outpatient clinics. It is a symbol of the combination of tradition and modernity – and is an essential part of Munich’s medical history.
Today, the ISAR Klinikum is a state-of-the-art medical facility with 240 beds. It comprises the departments of general, visceral and minimally invasive surgery, anaesthesia, gastroenterology, vascular surgery, cardiology, orthopaedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, urology, spinal surgery and the Bavarian Pelvic Floor Center.
The wide range of specialist departments and the many specialist medical practices (MVZ) located in the hospital allow for a wide range of excellently networked medical care that goes far beyond conventional diagnostics and treatment. What makes the ISAR Klinikum stand out is the close link between outpatient and inpatient care under one roof.
Since its opening, the doctors at the ISAR Klinikum have performed more than 70,000 inpatient operations with excellent results. With its consistently patient-oriented approach and excellent services in all areas, the ISAR Klinikum has quickly established itself alongside the major Munich clinics with first-class ratings.
The entire staff is working hard to further enhance the excellent status of the ISAR Klinikum – for the benefit of the patients.
