History of ISAR Klinikum

Our vision was to create a new platform for medicine. We saw what good medical care meant for patients and their quality of life by looking at day-to-day life at the university. We also found out where the limits were. We saw room for improvement in hierarchical structures and patient comfort. We thought it should be possible to practise high-quality medicine while meeting the needs of our patients better. - Dr Eckhard Alt, founder of ISAR Klinikum

Together with his team, Dr Alt made his vision a reality. In March 2008, ISAR Klinikum was opened on Sonnenstrasse, in the heart of Munich. Part of the historic complex is housed in the Bürklein listed building. Built in the 19th century, it is now home to many medical offices and clinics. It symbolises the amalgamation of tradition and modernity - and is a fundamental part of Munich’s medical history.

ISAR Klinikum is now a cutting-edge medical facility with 240 beds. It includes the departments of general, visceral and minimally invasive surgery, anaesthesia, breast surgery, gastroenterology, vascular surgery, cardiology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well radiology and urology.

The wide range of specialist departments and the many excellent practices in-house enable a broad network of medical care that goes far beyond conventional diagnosis and treatment. What sets ISAR Klinikum apart is the fact that outpatient and inpatient care can be found under one roof.

Since ISAR Klinikum opened, doctors have performed over 70,000 inpatient surgeries with excellent results. Because of its focus on patients and excellent services across the board, ISAR Klinikum quickly managed to establish itself as one of Munich’s leading clinics.

The entire staff is working hard to further elevate the excellent status of ISAR Klinikum - for the benefit of its patients.
