Pancreatic cancer: Modern robotic surgical procedures at the ISAR Klinikum in the focus of the tz

PD Dr. Holger Seidl and Prof. Franz Bader report on innovative therapies for pancreatic tumors

In its current issue, the Munich daily newspaper tz focuses on pancreatic cancer – one of the most aggressive tumor diseases of our time. The report focuses on PD Dr. Holger Seidl, Director of Gastroenterology, and Prof. Franz Bader, Director of Visceral Surgery at ISAR Klinikum.

In the interview, both experts explain the particular challenges involved in diagnosing and treating pancreatic cancer: as the disease is asymptomatic for a long time, it is often only detected at an advanced stage. Dr. Seidl emphasizes: “Unfortunately, there is no really effective early detection.” Only around 20 percent of patients are even considered for surgery – and even then the risk of recurrence remains high.

This makes innovative treatment methods such as modern robotic surgical procedures, which are used at the ISAR Klinikum, all the more important. These minimally invasive techniques enable particularly precise surgical procedures on the pancreas and offer numerous advantages: smaller incisions, less pain, faster recovery and a lower complication rate.

Prof. Bader underlines the importance of these new technologies: “With our robotic surgical procedures, we can remove pancreatic tumors even more gently and thus increase the chances of successful treatment.” Even in complex cases, patients benefit from the possibilities of modern robot-assisted surgery.

The interdisciplinary team from gastroenterology and visceral surgery works closely together to find the best individual therapy for each patient – always in line with the latest scientific findings.
