The ISAR Klinikum München is once again setting new standards in shunt care: As one of the leading interdisciplinary shunt reference centers in Germany, the center was successfully recertified by the independent certification body Clacert on March 17, 2025. This award, initiated by the professional associations DGA, DGG, DGIR and DGfN, confirms the outstanding quality in diagnostics, therapy and patient care – and underlines our claim: “More than a clinic!”
High standards, outstanding results
Recertification requires evidence of at least 200 dialysis shunt procedures per year, including 50 interventional procedures. The ISAR Klinikum clearly exceeded these requirements:
352 dialysis shunt interventions in 2024
73 Primary shunt installations (installation of new shunts)
119 endovascular therapies (minimally invasive treatments)
“Our success is based on the close cooperation between the specialist departments of vascular surgery, cardiology and anaesthesia as well as our partners such as the MVZ VCM and the Kuratorium für Heimdialyse (KfH),” explains Dr. Oliver Wolf, Head of the Shunt Center.
What makes our shunt center unique?
Interdisciplinary expertise: We combine specialist knowledge from vascular surgery, radiology and nephrology under one roof – for customized therapies.
Body’s own shunt systems preferred: We primarily rely on shunts with the body’s own material and reduce catheters to a minimum.
Pediatric shunt surgery: We are the only clinic in southern Bavaria to perform shunt surgery on children.
Digital shunt conference: Every 10 days, experts discuss complex cases and plan therapies together in a Zoom conference.

Since 2008, the Shunt Center has stood for holistic care that goes beyond standard solutions. Our actions follow strict quality guidelines (VO-QM-012, status: 12.05.2016) and a clear goal: long-term shunt functionality and quality of life for our patients.
