Prof. Dr. Hartwig Bauer
Prof. Bauer served as general secretary of the German Society of Surgery in Berlin until 2012. He was President of the Society in 1996/1997. From 1981 to 2002 he was the head of the department of surgery and medical director of Kreisklinik Altötting (an academic teaching hospital of the Technical University of Munich), which is a hospital providing specialized care.
Prof. Bauer has published more than 200 scientific papers in the fields of gastroenterological surgery, trauma surgery, and emergency medicine. Besides, he has acquired an outstanding reputation due to his work in hospital economics, hospital management and quality assurance, as well as in medical training and advanced training. He is a recipient of numerous awards and an honorary member of several national and international medical societies.
Dr. Christoph Bernheim

Dr. Bernheim has been medical director at ISAR Klínikum from 2006 on. He is a practicing vascular surgeon since 1993, focused on phlebology and cosmetic medicine. He was trained as a vascular surgeon from 1991 to1993 at the University of Göttingen, under Prof. W. Mohr. From 1986 to 1991 he completed his training in general surgery at the department of surgery, Municipal Hospital of Harlaching. Previously he was trained in intensive medicine, pacemaker therapy, and cardiac and vascular surgery at the University Clinic of Cardiac Surgery, Klinikum Großhadern.
In 1999 Dr. Bernheim was awarded his license to conduct advanced training by the Bavarian State Medical Association.
Prof. Dr. med. Wolf Heitland
Prof. Dr. Wolf Heitland is a specialist in surgery, visceral surgery including special visceral surgery and chest surgery, and has an additional qualification in procotology. He became Director of the Clinic of General, Visceral and Minimally Invasive Surgery at ISAR Klinikum in 2014. Before this time, from 1987 to 2013, he was chief physician of the Clinic of Visceral, Chest and Vascular Surgery at the municipal hospital of Munich - Bogenhausen (Städtisches Klinikum München Bogenhausen). From 1985 to 1987 he was executive senior physician at the University clinic of surgery in Tübingen.
Prof. Heitland is the author of more than 100 scientific articles in renowned journals and books, and has held more than 400 lectures on colorectal surgery at national and international conventions.
Prof. Heitland received several prizes and awards, including those of the Association of "Mittelrheinischer Chirurgen", the German Cancer Society, and the German Society of Surgery. He is an advisory visceral surgeon of the Bavarian State Chamber of Physicians, a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Society for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, and a member of the scientific advisory board of Felix Burda Foundation – Network against Intestinal Cancer.
PD Dr. Ralf Rothörl

Dr. Rothörl has been serving as a practicing neurosurgeon in Munich and as Deputy Director at ISAR Klinikum from 2008 onward. Since 2012 he has been head of the department of neurosurgery at ISAR Klinikum. From 2006 to 2008 he served as senior physician at the clinic of neurosurgery, Technical University of Munich, at Klinikum rechts der Isar. He established functional neurosurgery at this institution. Before this time he practiced for eleven years at the clinic and polyclinic of neurosurgery, University Clinic of Regensburg, where he also completed his training as a specialist in neurosurgery, become a senior physician, and completed his habilitation (thesis to obtain the license to teach at university).
Dr. Rothörl studied human medicine at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, and obtained the degree of a medical doctor in 1997 at the same university, at Ludwig Edinger Institute of Neuropathology.
He published more than 60 original papers and is frequently requested to review papers for publication in the journals Stroke, Neuroscience Letters, Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, and the Journal of Neurotrauma. He also lectures regularly at renowned national and international congresses.
